Jeremy McGoran’s Fight To Stay Alive

Jeremy McGoran had struggled with anxiety and depression. He was able to look back on his life and see that he had been struggling with anxiety and depression since he was a teen. He took time off from his job as a radio broadcaster to focus on his mental health and when he was ready, he told his listeners about what he was going through. As people listened, they started to come forward with their own journey with mental health. They admired Jeremy for being open and honest. He encouraged people who were struggling to get help. He wanted to end the stigma of mental health and be okay with talking about depression and anxiety.

As the years went by, it became harder for Jeremy to live with his mental health. He knew that he would always fight this battle that was going on inside of his head. His widow, Mare, said that it was hard to keep him alive, he couldn’t be left alone. Jeremy said in an interview with CTV News that he was tempted to take his life in the past.

He wanted to do what he could to stay alive. The struggle of trying to get better was something that Jeremy couldn’t deal with anymore. He fought for as long as he could. His mental health got too much and he wasn’t able to live anymore.

At the age of 35, Jeremy took his own life. He left behind his wife, Mare and 6 year old son, Thomas.

Mare spent the next few years documenting her journey on youtube and shared what it was like to be a single mother to a son with special needs while going through the stages and motions of grief. She wanted to keep Jeremey’s wish of educating people on mental health and advocate for those who need it. She doesn’t want the way Jeremy died to be his legacy. She wanted everyone to keep fighting and to get help.

If you are struggling, please get help. There is always someone to talk to. Be someone’s safe space. Be someone’s person to talk to. Be there for each other.
