The Breakfast Club Theory

Someone came up with a theory that the premise of The Breakfast Club was inside of the mind of Ally Sheedy’s character, Allison Reynolds. Everything that was in the movie was made up by her. 

Each character was a stereotype of a high school student with Allison being the loner, the outcast, the basketcase. Allison didn't have any friends so she created them in her head using high school stereotypes. 

Several popular fan theories surround the 1985 classic The Breakfast Club. The most notable one suggests the "basket case," Allison, was the only student actually serving detention. According to this, she hallucinated the exaggerated personalities of the jock, brain, princess, and criminal to process her loneliness.

There are parts in the movie where things happened that weren't noticed by the principal making it seem like Allison was the only one serving detention so whatever was going among the other characters, it never happened because she made it all up. 

The characters smoked pot, why wasn’t it smelt and brought up later when the principal came back or how didn’t he notice that the door leading into the librarian’s office had a broken window. 

They suggest that because Allison has no friends, she has invented these cliched friends for herself, as well as their many misadventures, while confined to their high school on that eventful Saturday in "The Breakfast Club." Despite all of the wacky hijinks that the group gets up to that day, there are basically no consequences.

Fans of the movie will go into deep dives and try to analyze the movie and figure out the true meaning behind the characters and come up with backstories. Instead of enjoying the movie for what it is, they will come up with a whole new meaning for it.
