What’s Your Favourite Scary Movie?

I grew up watching horror movies. My brother was the one that introduced them to me when we were kids. He suggested that I watch George A Romero’s 1978 classic movie Dawn Of The Dead. I’ve loved that movie ever since.
I’ve seen what people say are the scariest movies of all time, but when I watch them, I’m like “Is this it?” I didn’t jump or get scared once. People have said that Heredity was one of the best horror movies, but I didn’t think it was considered a horror, but more of a thriller. There wasn’t that much to it. Sure, there was some scenes that would make it a horror, but I didn’t get the hype about it.
I tend to find that a lot about horror movies. People are always making a list of what they think are the best scary movies are, but when I watch them, I find them to be predictable or they drag on without really finding the urge to end. You can find inspiration in horror movies, but when do you draw the line when it comes to using storylines that have been done a million times before or have sequels that make the original storyline drag on longer than it should be.
When horror movies were in their prime, every horror character and storyline was brand new. Of course, you’re going to be scared, but as time goes on and the more movies that come out, those characters and storylines get repetitive. The novelty of getting scared tends to wear off since you know what’s coming. Since I watch scary movies all the time, nothing gets to me. By this point, it’s become background noise.
Watching horror movies runs in the family since my mom used to love them when she was growing up. She’s not as fan of them anymore, but Carrie still remains her favorite scary movie. I don’t blame her since it’s an awesome movie. Who doesn’t love Sissy Spacek?
My mom played a mean joke on me as a kid when we were watching Carrie. If you seen the movie, you would know about the ending. My mom used the moment to scare the shit out of me. I was doing fine up until that moment. I got mad then cried. She laughed.
I don’t think there will ever be a horror movie that will give me the heebie jeebies or make me question my sanity. If I want a horror movie that will terrify everyone and anybody, maybe I should write one myself. I know enough to write one so if I want to be scared, I’ll just have to get started on the next horror cult classic and hope that it will scare the most stone cold person and turn them into a horror fan.
