Breaking Bad Addiction Habits

It’s hard to break habits and routine, especially when you’ve been doing them for so long, but there comes a time when you need to figure out what habits you need to break for you to have a successful future. Some habits are harder to break since people have accustomed to them and its “helps” them to live.
When it comes to trying to step away from bad habits, especially when it comes to addiction. A lot of the time, someone doesn’t know that their habits are harming them or causing problems within their relationships.
One of the things that people with addiction do is starting the day off with a drink or a drug because they want to get rid of the feeling of a hangover or the feeling of coming down off the drugs. It’s a vicious circle, they use or drink to function, but once they start to withdraw, they use again to pick themselves up. It’s a vicious habit that is hard to break. They don’t give themselves enough time to come down before they go back to their old ways. Addicts need to use to be able to live. It becomes a habit to the point where it comes a full blown addiction.
Some people can do drugs or drink alcohol and not ever use or drink again, but there’s always going to be someone that finds a thrill from using. They feel something, a feeling they can’t get anywhere else. They want to keep feeling and get that high so they get into the habit of using and drinking, but if someone knew how to stop, they wouldn’t be where they are. It makes them feel good. They feel connected. They become independent.
People want to stop, but they can’t find a reason to, or they keep coming up with excuses, putting themselves in danger of losing their life. Their addiction can also become worse because they use or drink more to block out whatever it is that caused them to use/drink to begin with.
If you want to break an addiction habit, you have to come to terms that you need help. You need to understand that if you don’t stop, you will lose everything, friends, family, your job, your house and eventually your life. You might not think that you’re never going to lose, but drugs and alcohol will eventually win the end.
You have to be able to put in the work. It’s not going to be easy. You have to be determined to be able to overcome your addiction. You have to be able to admit that there is something wrong and prove that you are going to try and beat your addiction. You have to put your habits aside and work through them. You can’t keep doing it on a daily basis, you have to fight the urge to use one drug to get over the effects of another drug.
It becomes an obsession; it takes so much time and energy that it overcomes you. You become do focused on getting your next fix that you can’t see or do anything else.
Your addiction will turn against you. It may have started off as just a once in a while occurrence then it will lead to a full time habit. You can’t go a day without it.
You have to acknowledge your habits and know that what you’re doing is harmful and that it needs to stop. You have to face your habits and know that if you keep doing them there are going to be consequences. It will help you find a change in your habits. You will be more aware of what you’re doing, and it will help you find support.
You will need to find what triggers you and find a way to overcome that trigger. You need to find a way to replace that urge to use in a situation and do something else to occupy your mind.
You don’t want your habits to define who you are. You need to find a way to move on. You need to be able to look back on your life with the knowledge that what you did will help other people in their journey.
You can take control back on your life. You need to realize that your habits not only affect you, but everyone in your life. You don’t need your addiction to life your live for you. You have to show who has the power. You need to show that your bad habits can be created into new better habits.
You have to be able to be open to change, you have to be able to fight the urge to want to use. If using and drinking is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning, you have to be able to find something to replace it. You have to find a more heathier habit. It’s going to be hard because not everyone is going to be open to admitting that their habits are causing them harm. They see nothing wrong with they are doing.
Surrounding yourself with people who are willing to lift you up and encourage you will help you break bad habits because they want to see you become the person you were before your addiction. They want to help you and be there for you. Get rid of negative influences in your life. The more you spend with people that cause you to rely on your habits, the harder it’s going to be to leave that life behind. You need positivity and the courage to be able to walk away.
By being able to determine what is causing you to be affected both mentally and physically, you can start to remove that part from your life. Take charge of your life. Getting help and seeking the right treatment will give you a chance to overcome the bad things in life and allow you to replace them with good things that will bring you joy. It will encourage you to find something that make you feel better. Find a passion, find something that will keep your mind off whether is it that makes you crave your addiction. Get rid of everything that involves your addiction. Out of sight, out of mind.
If you find yourself wanting to go back to your old habits, remember why you left them in your past. Remember how far you’ve come and think about the progress you made. Keeping working at it, keep going to counselling and therapy. Talk to someone you trust and let them know that you took a step back. Take control and don’t let your urges and cravings win.
You are a lot stronger than you think you are.
