Flying for anyone can be overwhelming and nerve wrecking, but with Autism, flying can bring on anxiety. There is a lot going on and sometimes when things are chaotic and/or doesn’t go as planned, someone with autism can start to get anxious.

There’s a lot that goes on at an airport and it’s overwhelming especially if you haven’t travelled or flown that much or if you are flying by yourself. There’s noise and crowds of people.

Navigating airports can be confusing and intimidating, especially if you don’t fly that often. Going through security can be scary since you don’t know if you’re going to be asked to step aside for a bag check. You never know what to say because you don’t want to come off like you're hiding something.

Being in the plane can be hard as well. You want to be able to move around and be able to pass the time by doing something other than just sitting for hours. You just want to get to your destination as fast as possible and enjoy your trip.

It’s challenging when you want to get out there and experience the world, but you feel like travelling and flying is too much. Seeing people travelling around and doing things you want to see and do yourself is hard and you want to be part of that, but flying is something that makes people anxious and overwhelmed and they don’t want to have that be the main focus of the trip because they won’t be able to enjoy themselves since they are worried about how they're going to feel once they get to the airport.
