Traveling For The Holidays

Everyone has the same idea to go way for the holidays, especially if you live in a cold climate and want to go somewhere that’s warm. As much as we would love to be able to pack up and go somewhere where we can spend all day on the beach, there’s things to consider.

I don’t want to discourage you from planning a trip, if that’s really want you want to do, but you have to think about not only where you want to go, but the financial part of it. You have to think about how many people are going? Do you want people to feel left out? Are you close enough with someone in your family that you want to spend 24 hours a day with them on vacation? If you have kids, are they going to be able to handle an hours long road trip or even an international flight?

A lot of people think it’s going to be easy to pick a country and just go, but they don’t think about all the things that go on behind the scenes. With everything that’s been going on in the world, you have to think about if it’s going to be safe to go there, is there paperwork that you need to be able to enter the country or even a fee to be able to access said paperwork?

Again, I don’t want to crash anyone’s dreams of going away for Christmas, but you really have to think about the current situation of the world and where you are in life. Are you going to be able to take everyone on a trip? Is this a trip just a trip to get away from everything? Is there a reason why you’re not staying home? I know that sounds harsh and it’s not very in the holiday spirit, but I’m just being honest. It takes a lot of planning and a lot of saving up. Is it worth affecting your mental health over deciding who goes and who gets left out? Is it going to be worth trying to fit in everyone’s ideas knowing that someone is not going to be able to do something they want to do?

The holidays tend to bring out a lot in people. They want to do as much as they can, but nobody really thinks about taking the time to slow down and breathe. Take the holidays as a sign to cherish what you have. You got through another year. There’s no need to rush through the holidays because we’re so close to the end of the year, but with that being said, if going away on vacation is something you need to do then be all means, go away and take that trip, but you just have to think about yourself and what you’re willing to do for your mental health.
