The holidays are stressful and a lot of people will start to plan early enough where by the time that Christmas comes, they just want to get it over and done with. They don’t seem to enjoy the holidays as much as they should because they spent so much time making everything perfect.
There are things that you can do to help you feel like you’re not rushing through everything and making sure you are getting the relaxation that you need during the holiday season.
It’s okay to say “no.” It’s okay to not want to do everything. You don’t need to do every little thing. If there is something that can be passed onto someone else then let it happen. You don’t need to be pressured into doing something you don’t want to do.
Make a list of things you want to achieve. Are there things that you want to do during the holidays that will make you get into the holiday spirit? Are there things you don’t want to do that you can allow other people to do? If you see everything on paper then it would make it a lot easier to see what needs to be done and crossing things off will make you feel accomplished.
Don’t expect everything to go right. If you think everyone and everything is going to smoothly then when something goes go wrong, you’re going to stress about it. Focus on what happening in the moment and let everything else happen.
When things start to go in another direction, take a step back and breath. Go for a walk, get some fresh air. Don’t let that moment ruin the rest of your day. It can be fixed.
If you can’t afford it then it’s okay to not do it. Just because someone else is doing something doesn’t mean you have to. It gives you motivation to try next year. Don’t over spend to make memories. Create memories that are within your means.
Don’t plan to much. Don’t expect to get everything done. Start small and add onto it as time goes on. Going big at the beginning is only going to cause you more trouble then you need. There is always going to be Christmas where you can go big or go home. Take one idea at a time. There’s no need to have a million things going on at once. Take your time.
Just because it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it doesn’t mean you should overdo it and give yourself anxiety to make everything right. If Christmas isn’t your thing, you are allowed to have a quiet holiday season that doesn’t involve doing anything or going anywhere.
